Soft Credit

When you want to give someone unofficial credit for a gift when they are not the legal donor, you can give them a "soft credit". That way the gift will count towards things like their lifetime giving and other fundraising metrics, but it won't change the official legal or accounting treatment of the gift. Common use cases include when a board member solicits a gift from a colleague, or when someone donates through a donor-advised fund.
